My Grandmother

My grandmother, brother, Fluff the dog and myself. Date: unknown

Warning: This ended up longer than planned but I needed to get it out.

I am so behind on my blog. On April 29th around 5:00 in the morning my mom called to let me know that my grandmother had fallen and hit her face/head on her marble vanity and was in ICU. The doctors did not think she would make it. My mom, daughter, youngest son and I left that morning and drove to Ohio to be with her. We expected she would not make it and in my mind I was prepared for that.

When we arrived her face was swollen, bruised and her nose was still bloody. She was very incoherent and often did not know who we were or would forget that she had just seen us earlier in the day. She slowly recovered and by Monday the 4th when we left she was talking knew what had happened and the doctors felt like after spending some time in a rehab would be able to return home with my grandad. Best of all she asked about salvation then prayed with a nurse and pastor. I could hardly believe it, I have been praying for her salvation since I got saved. I could not have left any happier.

About the time we crossed the Texarkana border we got a call that she developed a blood clot but they doctors caught it early and for us not to worry.

About a week later she was moved to a rehab to help her gain her strength back and work on some other issue that came up as a result of the fall. Each day the report was that she doing fine, a little weak but OK. On Saturday May 16th unbeknown to me I would hear my grandmothers voice for the last time. She called to let me know she was feeling weak and wanted to make sure I would be praying for strength to quickly return. I assured her I was and let her know how much I loved her. we hung up and I called my mom to voice my concern as to how very weak she did sound. My mom, who also lives in Texas, said she knew and that her step sister Cathy was going to talk to the doctor on Monday about it.

Cathy went to the rehab Monday to meet with the doctors and discuss the care she was receiving. On Tuesday morning I was called because when Cathy got to the rehab my grandmother was lethargic and seemed to be "out of it". They called and ambulance and she was admitted to the hospital in the ICU unit. She had an infection, her one kidney was not functioning, and she was dehydrated. They told us once she got some fluids in her and an antibiotic she should turn around very quickly.

Each day this week the calls have been she is getting better. Even yesterday afternoon my mom called and said they were thinking of stepping her down to a regular room. Then around 8:00 last night my mom called to say my grandmother had passed away.

I sat in total shock. I cried but then felt like I couldn't even breath. Once I calmed down I went to my moms apartment to spend some time with her. I got very little sleep last night. I understand now what people mean when they say you are never truly ready for the death of a loved one.

Sydney graduates tomorrow so we plan to stay here for now. I want Sydney to get to participate in the graduation ceremony. At this point they think Tuesday or Wednesday will be the soonest for the funeral so I guess we will decided what to do later today or maybe in the morning.

Please keep our family in your prayers, it has been a very rough year so far for us.

Girls Day Out: Spa Time

I had so much fun this afternoon! Sydney and I took advantage of this great offer at Avante Salon and day spa. Susan did a wonderful job on my hair. I told her to do what ever she wanted and I am glad I did. My treatment started off with a scalp massage and conditioning, next she conditioned the hair, then dried and styled it. Honestly my hair has not looked this god in years. She suggested I come back in for some long layers in a few weeks and I definetly plan to!

The stylist that worked with Sydney seemed just as great from what I could tell and her hair looks beautiful! Syd has long thick curly hair and most stylist seem intimidated by it and want to either cut it, straighten it or both. This stylist was excited to work with it and did exactly what Sydney wanted.

We both left giggling touching our hair and each others. We had so much fun in fact that we agreed once Sydney leaves for college every visit home will have to include a spa/hair trip to Avante!

Note: Sydney did take some pictures in the truck on the way home so depending on how they come out I may try to post those later.

Missing In Action

I have so much I could write about that I have no idea where to start. Have you ever had one of those days that turns into one of those weeks, then months. Well that is how life has been this year.

I have so much I want to share but much of it is hard to deal with and even harder to put into words. Have you ever looked at a picture and not been able to sum it up, that is how life has been lately. Each time I think things are about to calm down and return to normal something else comes up. Thankfully the Lord has showed me many things lately and although I have liked very little of what has taken place in my life I am learning from it and hopefully becoming a better person because of it.

I will try to get on here more often and share what is going on, that is kinda the point of the blog huh?
