Fall is finally here in North Texas and what better way to celebrate than a giant roadside antique extravaganza?! Okay I may be reaching just a bit but after months of 100+ temps it felt great to spend the day outside looking for treasures!
Antique Alley is held twice a year, once in the spring and then again in the fall. It stretches along 6 cities and last three days. This year Scott and I headed out on Sunday morning while it was still cool out. We were armed with some cash, my camera and a list of a few specific items.
First on the list: Scott was in need of a specific tool, don’t ask me what’s called I don’t know. He had looked for it at Home Depot the night before and it was $70, we found it for $10!
Next on the list was a table with interesting legs for the dog bed project I want to make. If you’ve ever priced wooden legs you know they are outrageous! We ended up finding a table with cool legs that was exactly what I needed for the project! Now instead of building the frame I just need to paint it and make the pad for the top of it! The owner wanted $40 but settled for $30! Going on the last day has it advantages!
Our final purchase wasn’t anything we had planned but I would say it was the best buy of the day! I am SLOWLY redoing our den. One of the current eye sores out there is the fireplace opening. At one of the last spots on the route Scott spotted an old antique fireplace opening frame and door! It was marked $80 and I honestly wasn’t sure I wanted to spend that much. We decided to think about while we walked around. I could tell Scott really wanted it so we went back by and the seller offered to take $70. That we better but we weren’t even sure about the dimension so we thought we better pass. The entire walk back to the truck we couldn’t stop talking about. Only problem was we only had $60 in cash left. We deiced to head back over and make an offer. Yet again we scored! The couple accepted $60 and after giving us some history about where it came from we headed back to the truck and then home.
It was a fantastic was to usher in fall while finding some new to us items for the house. Stay tuned for details on the puppy bed and the restoration of the fireplace frame and door.
